About Phil Clarkson

I graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1973 and received my law degree in 1978 after graduating from McGeorge School of Law (University of the Pacific) in that same year. I have practiced in the area of lemon law (consumer warranty) and consumer fraud litigation since 1979 and limit my practice to these areas.

I am a founding member of The California Lemon Law Attorneys (an organization that sponsors and conducts state-wide lemon law conferences and is certified by the California State Bar as a continuing education provider for attorneys.) I have moderated many state-wide lemon law conferences and have made presentations at virtually all such conferences since their inception in 1986. I organized and lead the California Lemon Law Attorneys Appellate Committee (fighting for consumer oriented interpretation of the lemon law by the Courts of Appeal) and am also involved in the legislative process to (1) fight off the manufacturer's attempts to water down consumer protections and (2) enact tougher consumer protection laws.  I have helped draft amendments to California's lemon law.

I have been quoted in the California State Bar publication "California Lawyer" in an article on the lemon law and my work has been cited in Ralph Nader's "Lemon Book." I have also been interviewed and presented on television and radio in conjunction with my work in this field.

I am a referral attorney with the National Center for Auto Safety in Washington, D.C. and have represented Consumer's Union (publisher of Consumer Reports Magazine) before the California Court of Appeal in a case dealing with the lemon law.
