Lemon Law News – Power Train Problems Cause Aston Martin Recall

Aston Martin’s American division recently announced a recall involving a handful of their luxury vehicles which could experience power train problems.

The manufacturer notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on June 21, 2017 that they will recall 179 2011-2014 Aston Martin V8 Vantage vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with 7-speed Auto-Shift Manual “SportShift II” transmissions.

Aston Martin said a clutch fluid line connector may break, leaking hydraulic fluid. Hydraulic fluid loss can prevent the vehicle from shifting gears. If the hydraulic fluid dramatically drops while the car is in motion, the transmission can shift into emergency neutral as the vehicle stops. Were the driver to ignore the dash warning message and leave the vehicle without applying the parking brake, the vehicle can roll away. Both conditions increase crash risk.

The company said they first learned about the issue in April 2017, after which they launched an investigation. They soon discovered a previously issued service action to repair a leaking clutch feed pipe covered an incorrect VIN range, not covering all vehicles affected. They determined on June 15, 2017 to issue a voluntary recall.

Aston Martin will notify owners and dealers will install a support bracket to hold pipe securely in position, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 7, 2017. Owners may contact Aston Martin customer service at 1-949-379-3100. Aston Martin’s number for this recall is RA-07-0024. Concerned Aston Martin owners can also visit the NHTSA’s website and enter their VIN to see if their vehicle is included in any recalls.

Your vehicle’s manufacturer is legally required to fix any recalled problems for free. If the dealership refuses to fix the part or tries to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately. The Highway Safety Act of 1970, which created the NHTSA, requires car manufacturers to pay for the recall and replacement of a defective part.

If the manufacturer fails to repair, replace, repurchase, or provide your recalled vehicle’s loss value, they are violating the warranty and a lawyer may be able to help you.

Lemon law attorneys help their clients by dealing directly with the manufacturer on the clients’ behalf, working to promptly resolve the issue and get their clients back on the road. Thanks to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, attorneys can seek their fees directly from the manufacturer, meaning a client can obtain legal counsel without having to pay attorneys’ fees directly out of pocket.
