Lemon Law News – Faulty Turn Signals Prompt Jaguar Recall

Jaguar Land Rover North America is recalling a handful of their latest F-TYPE vehicles for problems with their front turn signals.

The manufacturer notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) on May 25, 2017 that they will recall 18 2018 Jaguar Highline F-TYPE vehicles.

Jaguar’s safety recall report said the vehicle’s LED turn signals may fail without notifying the driver. The inside indicators and turn signal’s audible “tick-tock” sounds continue unchanged, the driver never knowing their turn signals malfunctioned. Malfunctioning turn signals can increase crash risk since other drivers won’t know if and when the vehicle is turning.

The company said without a failure warning, the vehicle doesn’t comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment.

Jaguar said they began investigating the issue on May 9, 2017 after receiving a report of a test vehicle not indicating a turn signal failure. The investigators isolated the problem to the 2018 Highline F-TYPE vehicles. The company’s recall determination committee issued a recall on May 18, 2017.

Jaguar identified Automotive Lighting Reutlingen of Reutlingen, Germany as the manufacturers of the malfunctioning components.

Jaguar will notify owners and dealers will update the vehicle’s software free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on July 17, 2017. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar’s number for this recall is H026. Jaguar owners can also visit the NHTSA’s website and enter their VIN to see if their vehicle is included in any recalls.

Your vehicle’s manufacturer is legally required to fix any recalled problems for free. If the dealership refuses to fix the part or tries to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately. The Highway Safety Act of 1970, which created the NHTSA, requires car manufacturers to pay for the recall and replacement of a defective part.

If the manufacturer fails to repair, replace, repurchase, or provide your recalled vehicle’s loss value, they are violating the warranty and a lawyer may be able to assist you.  Lemon law attorneys help their clients by dealing directly with the manufacturer on the clients’ behalf, working to promptly resolve the issue and get their clients back on the road. Thanks to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, attorneys can seek their fees directly from the manufacturer, meaning a client can obtain legal counsel without having to pay attorneys’ fees directly out of pocket.
